Fuji Instax 210 Camera

Instax 210

Not sure if I am behind on this one or not, but the Fuji Instax 210 camera looks much better than the Instax Mini that I own. The 210 takes a wider format instant photos and looks more compact than the mini. If you haven’t discovered the fun behind instant photos I suggest you go drop a hundred bucks on this camera available over at Opening Ceremony.

Yours Truly

Yours Truly

I was first turned on to Yours Truly from a video they had done about Delorean. Yours Truly is a group in San Francisco that seem to have their hands in a lot of creative outlets focusing mainly on journalism, video production, photography and graphic design. They have done work with Current TV, Pitchfork, XLR8R, Stereogum, URB and more. I really enjoy their videos that give an intimate look into the lives of bands like Cut Copy, Passion Pit, Delorean, Girls, Nosaj Thing and a bunch more. I could spend all day watching their videos.

Making of 48 Hour Magazine

A few days ago I posted about 48 Hour Magazine. Here is a “pocket documentary” that talks about the magazine and the people behind it.

The Amazing Street Art of CT

CT1

The other day I came across the street art of Italian native CT. His graphic street art is unlike that of any I have seen. I am blown away at his amazingly clean lines, use of geometric typography and colors he uses. I recommend checking out this gallery of his works.

Indie Game: The Movie Teaser

I never knew about indie video game development until a friend of mine (who works developing video games) told me about an amazing game called Braid. I watched him complete the entire game in one sitting one night in Shanghai while having some beers at his house. That was my introduction to indie gaming. Indie Game: The Movie is a documentary being made about the Indie Game culture, the people who make and the people who play the games.

BlinkWork is currently looking for funding to complete the film. If you are interested in helping head over here.

48 Hour Magazine

48 Hour Magazine

In any industry adapting for the digital age is a challenge, but it’s been especially difficult for the publishing industry. The thought of printed magazines slowly disappearing one by one is sad. 48 Hour Magazine is challenging the traditional methods of magazine publishing by keeping overhead costs low and doing exactly what the name implies… writing, photographing, illustrating, designing, editing, laying it out, printing and shipping it in a matter of 48 hours! I really enjoy seeing how people with passion and the will to adapt can make make things work when the big guys are scratching their heads wondering why they can’t make any money. 48 Hour Magazine just released their first issue and is available now for $10 at MagCloud.

TEENAGERSINTOKYO Are Coming Around

The band TEENAGERSINTOKYO have been lingering around for a while now. They have released an EP and a few singles over the past couple years, but we have been awaiting a full length for some time. The wait is nearing an end with their debut full length album Sacrifice that is due out May 24th. This video for their single ‘End It Tonight’ was just released and it has refreshed my memory of how much I like these guys.

The Selby – A Peek Into Creatives’ Spaces

 The Cobrasnake

The Selby is a website that takes a photographic exploration into the living spaces of some of the most well-known artists throughout the world. I’ve always thought you can learn a lot about someone just by taking a look around their home, and I feel some of the most interesting ones are those of artists. From Brooklyn to L.A., Tokyo, London and more go and check out a more intimate side of your favorite creatives.

Visions of Trees – Sometime It Kills

Wednesday, September 8th, 2010

vot

Chillwave, dreampop, psych R’n'B… whatever you call the sound this has been the Summer of fuzzy synths, tropical sounding beach music that warms the soul. And I love it. Visions of Trees is some of my favorite I have heard of this genre. Especially this track ‘Sometimes It Kills’. The beautiful female vocals and fuzzy, dreamy beats are nothing short of heavenly. I can’t wait to hear more from this English duo. Also head over to Vice to hear a mixtape Visions of Trees have put together for them.

Shlohmo – Post Atmosphere (Baths Remix)

Baths

I have really been enjoying the music of Baths lately. Here is a remix done of ‘Post Atmosphere’ by Shlohmo that has some really nice glitchy beats. I am always down for some well-done glitches, blips, bleeps or other electronic sounds.

Salem

Salem

Salem is one of those music acts that you don’t quite know how to feel about, and don’t even begin to know how to categorize. Dreamy electronic beats with female vocals and sometimes distorted rapping.  At times dark and scary, at times beautiful, but quite always strange. Check out their video for the track ‘Dirt’ and you will know what I mean.

R3 – Black Light Roulette

Tuesday, August 31st, 2010

r3

Earlier this month my good friend in Shanghai, R3, shared this five minute journey of a track with me. It’s difficult to even begin to categorize this unique song. Sort of an upbeat darkwave sound. I really love the breakdown around two minutes in. R3 is one of the most talented producers I know and he continues to improve his skills. I look forward to a full length album from him. Hint hint.

The Rapture – Echoes (Computer Blue Remix)

Monday, August 30th, 2010

ComputerBlue

With each remix released by Computer Blue I increasingly become more impressed. On this remix of The Rapture’s song ‘Echoes’ they take a fairly standard dance rock hit and manage to keep all the great things about the song, and add an electro twist that only makes it better. The wailing vocals are perfect for a dance floor banger, and the intro just kicks complete ass.
