Hypetape

hypetape

Hypetape claims to be the lovechild of Muxtape and Hype Machine. While it’s obvious the website is inspired by the overly-simplistic interface of Muxtape, and seems to work much like the original semi-controversal Muxtape, it’s actually more like what Muxtape should have been. You are able to create your own profile, and then search music and create multiple playlists (one big feature the original Muxtape was lacking).  It’s not clear as to where Hypetape gets their music, but apparently it doesn’t actually get any MP3s from Hype Machine. Regardless it’s a neat, simple little website. We’ll see if it last’s without the man shutting it down.

Remix Rush :: Hot Pink Delorean do ZOMBIES!

l_99804b183db14bb3bb3919061f48e89f

So it has been a while since I have posted here at TheDopeFiend and I honestly can’t think of a better way to come back than to bring you this remix Hot Pink Delorean has done of Designer Drugs‘ ‘ZOMBIES!’. The original track is amazing to begin with. I didn’t think it anyone could have made it harder than it already is, but Hot Pink Delorean managed to take the ZOMBIES! and put there own evil metal twist on it that makes it a complete headbanger of a track. It literally game me goosebumps the first time hearing it. I suggest you download it now!

Chris Cornel On NPR

The other day I was listening to an interview on NPR with lead singer of Soundgarden, Chris Cornell. The interview was about his recent project with the well known producer Timbaland. Timbaland has worked with a wide variety of artists, but I think it’s obvious most people wouldn’t have expected Chris Cornell to team up with him. In the interview Cornell talks about how they got together and his reasoning for changing up his sound. I think he comes of as a really intelligent guy. I don’t particularly care for the music much, but I have a lot of respect for artists that are willing to try something different.

Remix Rush :: Kids At The Bar

Kids At The Bar

Kids At The Bar is a couple of guys from the midwest (Oklahoma City to be exact) who describe themselves “a mixture of electro, punk, hip-hop, and rock.” Hmm, sounds just about like every other DJ/Producer you run across these days. Truth be told trying to describe most dance music these days is nearly impossible because  artists are influenced by so many different styles of music. Regardless of how you discribe these remixes done by Kids At The Bar, they are sure to get the dance floor in a frenzy. The first one is of the highly-hyped Passion Pit’s track ‘Sleepyhead’, this one is a must listen. Kids At The Bar are playing at SXSW (along with the rest of the artists in the entire world) at the Purevolume House Party Wed March 18th.

MSTRKRFT Announces North American Tour

mstrkrft

When you have reached the caliber of popularity that MSTRKRFT has it’s hard to avoid the backlash of haters. But somehow they are able to get away with remixing Britney Spears and still maintain their street cred. With the much anticipated release of their album Fist Of God coming up in March MSTRKRFT is hitting-up a bunch of cities across North America to build the hype (as if there won’t be enough already). The tour includes performances at SXSW, Ultra Music Festival and ending up at Coachella. They are even doing a special live performace of ‘Bounce’ on Jimmy Kimmel. Damn, pretty mainstream. Let’s hope they keep that street cred.

The Presets – If I Know You Video

The Presets have just released a video for the track “If I know You” off their album Apocalypto. They have chosen French director Eva Husson who also did the video for M83’s “Kim and Jessie”. This track isn’t one of my favorites from the album, but I really like the video and how it goes along with the song. It could have easily crossed over into being pretty corny, but the way it was filmed and produced made for a really cool video.

Amplive Remixes In Rainbows

There seems to have been a bit of controversy surrounding the remix album Zion I producer Amplive did of Radiohead’s In Rainbows. The project recieved a cease & desist order before it was even released. However, the artists involved were able to come to an agreement and have made the entire 8 track album available for free. Nice resolution! The remix album which, was titled Rainydayz Remixes, has injected a nice hip-hop twist on the original featuring guest appearances by Del The Funky Homosapien and Too $hort. I also really enjoy Amplive’s semi-glitchy production style that he also uses on Zion I albums.

NPR’s Exclusive First Listen

I have been a fan of NPR for some time now. I would like to congratulate them on their new segment called Exclusive First Listen. The segment is hosted by Bob Boilen who talks with selected artists that are about to release a new album. The artists are interviewed about the albums and listeners are also able to submit their own questions via chat. I find it really interesting to hear first hand what the artist/artists had in mind when creating their music. Not only that, but Listeners are able to visit NPR’s website and listen to the entire album that is featured for that show. The show is fairly new but already they have featured Animal Collective talking about their new album Merriweather Post Pavilion, and Andrew Bird talking about his new album Noble Beast. I believe they are in the works of doing a show with Dan Deacon, so I am excited to hear that.

The Bloody Beetroots 2009 Remix Teaser

The Bloody Beetroots completely blew-up in 2008, and rightfully so, they produced some of the best dance tracks of the year. I am completely in love with their easily recognized hard-hitting style and this preview of their upcoming releases makes me want to pee my pants. It seems they are mixing up their sound a bit, which is not a bad thing because they are doing it well. I can’t wait for these tracks to drop! See the tracklist after the jump.

New Cadence Weapon – Name Your Price

Cadence Weapon has a new release out available now for download at a “name your price” amount. Apparently the tracks on the album, titled Separation Anxiety, are available exclusively on the album. It’s pretty rare these days that an artist like this doesn’t release a bunch of tracks to the blogs before the album comes out. For that I give him props. Most of the album appears to be remixes, but Cadence Weapon has teamed up with production masters like A-trak, Herve, A1 Bassline and Sinden. I say head over and pay your price for what looks to be 20 worthy tracks. View the track list here.

New 123Klan Website

I have been a big fan of 123klan for a long time now. I really love the way they mesh digital vector with graffiti style art. Their logo and identity work is also some of my favorite stuff out there. It has been a while but they have finally updated their website. They have a new, more simple blog-type site with a bunch of new work including the EP cover and logo for Don Rimini. In celebration of their new website they have teamed up with LOWCLUB to bring you a special hour long mix including some of their favorite tracks.

Remix Rush :: Bounce

I’m not sure how I didn’t hear this track until now. One of the biggest dance floor bangers of the year, Bounce by MSTRKRFT, remixed by one of my favorite DJ/producer duos, The Bloody Beetroots. This rework contains all the bouncing-beat goodness that the original has, but the Bloody Beetroots have added their special hard-hitting ingredient taking it to the next level. The Buildup around three minutes to the song is just outright ridiculous. The Bloody Beetroots have done it yet again.

Kavinsky – Nightcall (Adam Kesher Remix)

Monday, July 19th, 2010

Adam Kesher

Adam Kesher has just made available for download a four track collection of his own remixes. My favorite of the collection is this remix done for Kavinsky’s ‘Nightcall’. It’s a short (just under three minutes), happy tune with vocoded male vocals and female vocals that contrast nicely. Head over to the Disque Primeur Facebook page to download all four remixes free. Adam Kesher also has a new album due out in August called Challenging Nature, so keep your eye out for that.

Good Stuff From Glasser

Glasser

Last night I saw Delorean in concert. As I expected they were amazing, but I was also impressed by one of the opening acts Glasser. Glasser was one of those artists in my music library who I had listened to, filed away and forgotten to check into further. That is until I saw her performance last night. I recommend giving these tracks a listen and if you get the opportunity check her out live.

M.I.A. – Steppin’ Up (Nacey Remix)

Thursday, July 15th, 2010

Nacey

Nacey is a duo out of Washington D.C. that not only are a part of the city’s biggest club night, but have also been making waves as producers over the past couple years. This remix they have done of ‘Steppin’ Up’ from M.I.A.’s latest album isn’t exactly a dance floor banger, but good nevertheless. It’s got a cool melodic piano track and hard-hitting head-bobbing bassline. The duo recently released a seven track EP titled Time Run Out and is available now here.
