Tomorrow night, April 8th, my friend Hot Noise and I will yet again join forces as Never Eat Neon and will be playing the Passion Pit afterparty at The Urban Lounge. If you are in Salt Lake City come on by.
DJ application Sonorasaurus Rex has been released just in time for the release of the iPad. The interface looks a little basic, but clean and easy to use. The question is will any real DJs actually use these mixing apps with an iPad to perform live shows? I think the relatively inexpensive cost of the device, portability and huge touch screen are welcome advantages over lugging your laptop from club to club and punching in keystrokes on a laptop keyboard. But until these apps have the ability to interface with vinyl I just don’t see anyone using them. Sorato for the iPad?
How do you feel? Would you use an iPad to perform in a club?
Everyday I find new and great music available on other websites. A lot of these MP3s, like on music website RCRDLBL, are not intended to be re-hosted. So, here is a round-up of various downloadable MP3s from other websites I have found recently. This will be an ongoing feature here at TheDopeFiend so watch for future MP3 Round-Ups.
The release of the iPad will certainly change the way we view media, but will it also be a useful tool for creating media? The midipad software for the iPad actually converts the device into a virtual midi controller allowing you to control music software on your Mac or PC. The coolest part about this software is that is allows you to control your software over a wireless connection. This means it’s possible we may see DJs or producers performing live using iPads, and it would give them the flexiblity of not being tied down by a bunch of wires and cables. I got this track in my inbox the other day from an artist called 835. It’s a track called ‘Slapdash’ from the album titled I’m A Genius. At first I didn’t plan on posting it. On first listen it had kind of a corniness to it. Somehow it made its way on to my iPod, and the more I listened to it the more I liked that corny appeal. There isn’t much about the artist to be found, but I recommend giving this track a few listens. It’ll grow on you.

Got some really nice tracks for you today from Parisian band Fortune. The band has the new “Gimme EP” as well as the full length album Staring At The Ice Melt dropping on March 23rd. In celebration of their upcoming album releases they are giving away some great tracks for free including remixes by M83 and Blackjoy, and their own remix of Phoenix’s 1901 from their remix collection.

Owl Vision has released a new EP called Fields Of Corpses available for free over at his Myspace. I highly recommend downloading it. This track called ‘Fields Of Blow’ is remixed by Fckn Crew and is DIRTY. I can’t wait to play this shit for a dance floor. The EP also features remixes done by IKKI and Underhall.

There are a lot of music event and concert websites out there. Some hit the mark, and others don’t. Superglued looks like one that has hit the mark. The website has a clean and simple user interface with some really nice integration with Facebook, Twitter and Flickr. The website allows users to browse events, share events and review events they have been to. They have also released a Superglued iPhone app that looks to have a interface and some cool tools.
Time to start the weekend off right with this brand new original track by Kids At The Bar. This track has a bit of a different sound than their usual electro-rock sound, but it will certainly get the dance floor just as rowdy. The track will be released on Robot Dance Records and will be available on both Beatport and iTunes.

Within the past year I can really only think of a handful of albums that were realeased that made a big impression on me. One of those just so happened to be an EP released by Passion Pit. Since the release of that EP I have been anxiously awaiting a full length ablum from Passion Pit, and it’s coming soon. Manners is the title of the new album and it’s going to be released on the 19th of May. Here is a little peek into the album… a track by the name of ‘Moth’s Wings’. You can also preview the rest of the album over at Amazon.

I go in and out of phases where I will listen to hip-hop, and I don’t post about it much here. However, I think what Del The Funky Homosapien is doing with his new album The Stimulus Package is pretty noteworthy. He has not only funded the entire album on his own, doing it completely independent, but he is also making it available free to download. The album is available at his page on Bandcamp (which is also a really great site for musicians).
