Sonorasaurus Rex, Will Anyone Actually Use It?

Sonorasaurus

DJ application Sonorasaurus Rex has been released just in time for the release of the iPad. The interface looks a little basic, but clean and easy to use. The question is will any real DJs actually use these mixing apps with an iPad to perform live shows? I think the relatively inexpensive cost of the device, portability and huge touch screen are welcome advantages over lugging your laptop from club to club and punching in keystrokes on a laptop keyboard. But until these apps have the ability to interface with vinyl I just don’t see anyone using them. Sorato for the iPad?

How do you feel? Would you use an iPad to perform in a club?

Introducing TheDopeFiend MP3 Round-Up

mp3_roundup

Everyday I find new and great music available on other websites. A lot of these MP3s, like on music website RCRDLBL, are not intended to be re-hosted. So, here is a round-up of various downloadable MP3s from other websites I have found recently. This will be an ongoing feature here at TheDopeFiend so watch for future MP3 Round-Ups.

iPad Producers: Midipad

midipad_dj

The release of the iPad will certainly change the way we view media, but will it also be a useful tool for creating media? The midipad software for the iPad actually converts the device into a virtual midi controller allowing  you to control music software on your Mac or PC. The coolest part about this software is that is allows you to control your software over a wireless connection. This means it’s possible we may see DJs or producers performing live using iPads, and it would give them the flexiblity of not being tied down by a bunch of wires and cables. 835 – Slapdash

I got this track in my inbox the other day from an artist called 835. It’s a track called ‘Slapdash’ from the album titled I’m A Genius. At first I didn’t plan on posting it. On first listen it had kind of a corniness to it. Somehow it made its way on to my iPod, and the more I listened to it the more I liked that corny appeal. There isn’t much about the artist to be found, but I recommend giving this track a few listens. It’ll grow on you.

Owl Vision has released a new EP called Fields Of Corpses available for free over at his Myspace. I highly recommend downloading it. This track called ‘Fields Of Blow’ is remixed by Fckn Crew and is DIRTY. I can’t wait to play this shit for a dance floor. The EP also features remixes done by IKKI and Underhall.

Superglued Music & Events Website

There are a lot of music event and concert websites out there. Some hit the mark, and others don’t. Superglued looks like one that has hit the mark. The website has a clean and simple user interface with some really nice integration with Facebook, Twitter and Flickr. The website allows users to browse events, share events and review events they have been to. They have also released a Superglued iPhone app that looks to have a interface and some cool tools.

Kids At The Bar – So We Can Party

Time to start the weekend off right with this brand new original track by Kids At The Bar. This track has a bit of a different sound than their usual electro-rock sound, but it will certainly get the dance floor just as rowdy. The track will be released on Robot Dance Records and will be available on both Beatport and iTunes.

Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.

Kitsuné Maison 9 Coming Soon

rephlektorlist_CDA028300dpirgb_1

The latest Kitsuné Maison Compilation is due out at the end of April. This compilation is said to be much more mellow than the previous. In their words it’s “the most snuggly, peaceful, motherly Kitsuné compilation until now – soft as cotton.” Even so I am looking forward to it. It consists of tracks and remixes by artists like Arthur Baker, Crookers feat Yelle, Holy Ghost!, Hurts, Joan Of Arc, Two Door Cinema Club, Yusek  and more. I will keep you posted on any previews available before the release.

New Album Coming From Passion Pit

passionpit-2

Within the past year I can really only think of a handful of albums that were realeased that made a big impression on me. One of those just so happened to be an EP released by Passion Pit. Since the release of that EP I have been anxiously awaiting a full length ablum from Passion Pit, and it’s coming soon. Manners is the title of the new album and it’s going to be released on the 19th of May. Here is a little peek into the album… a track by the name of ‘Moth’s Wings’. You can also preview the rest of the album over at Amazon.

Del Releases Free Album

I go in and out of phases where I will listen to hip-hop, and I don’t post about it much here. However, I think what Del The Funky Homosapien is doing with his new album The Stimulus Package is pretty noteworthy. He has not only funded the entire album on his own, doing it completely independent, but he is also making it available free to download. The album is available at his page on Bandcamp (which is also a really great site for musicians).

Hooray For Earth – Surrounded By Your Friends (Twin Shadow Remix)

Thursday, October 21st, 2010

Twin_Shadow

Twin Shadow has been making some waves throughout the internets lately. I recently purchased his new album Forget, and I must say I quite like it. I am also really liking this remix he has done for Hooray For Earth, who I had never heard of before this song, but will surely be checking them out after hearing it.

Muscles – Girl Crazy Go (Muscles Inception Remix)

Monday, October 18th, 2010

musclesyim

The last I heard of Muscles he had quit the music business because of problems with his label Modular. This disappointed me because I love his music. However, I was happy to see that if the rumors were true at the time he has apparently changed his mind. A new EP by Muscles titled Younger & Immature is due out October 29.

Here’s a remix of the first single from the EP ‘Girl Crazy Go’. Check out the music video for the original version here. From the sounds of it Muscles hasn’t lost his musical touch, or his ego.

Sleigh Bells – Run the Heart (Bassnectar Remix)

Thursday, October 14th, 2010

Sleigh+Bells+sleighbells1

Music by Bassnectar isn’t something I would normally post here. For the most part I feel his stuff is for dirty rave hippies, and if you read this blog at all you probably know how I feel about the wobbly bass-heavy Dubstep. That being said this remix done of Sleigh Bells‘ song ‘Run the Heart’ is still bass-heavy, but not completely overboard. It also manages to keep a lot of what makes the original track so good.

Martin Solveig ft. Dragonette – Hello

Tuesday, October 5th, 2010

dragonette-martin

Chances are if you spend any amount of time on the internet you have heard ‘Hello’ by Martin Solveig featuring the lovely Dragonette (considering it went number one on Hype Machine). But I couldn’t resist posting this super-fun dance-pop masterpiece. It’s basically impossible not to want to dance to this song. I don’t know a lot about Martin Solveig, but from what I have heard and seen so far I am liking his stuff. Purchase the EP with several remixes on Beatport now.

Millionyoung – Local Joke (Neon Indian Cover)

Friday, October 1st, 2010

million-young

Millionyoung, aka Mike Diaz, is shaping up to be one of my favorite artist of 2010. I really love this cover he has done of Neon Indian’s ‘Local Joke’. He adds his own personality to the song, so much that it sounds as though he could have written it. I am looking forward to a full-length album from him.
