Remix Rush: Chewing Gum

Within the past nine months or so my love for dance music has been revived. This new love for dance music is due largely to artists such as Tommie Sunshine, Tiga, MSTRKRFT and Mylo. With the realease of his highly-acclaimed debut album “Destroy Rock & Roll” Mylo gained attention from music lovers everywhere, and in my mind was a large part of the dance music revival. “Chewing Gum” is the track spotlighted in this Remix Rush. It was originally done by electronic pop queen Annie, who also had a huge year in 2005 with her release of “Anniemal”. Have a listen, and feel free to dance.

Remix Rush: Take Me Out

There wasn’t a lot of information to be found about this post’s remix, but I thought I would share it anyway. The track is done by UK wonderboys Hot Chip who have graced the cover of every electronic music magazine you could think of this past year. With their release of “Coming on Strong” they have done just that, come on strong. They have done many remixes, but one that I have been listening to a bunch lately is their rework of Franz Ferdinand’s “Take Me Out”. There are many times when I like a remix better than the original, this is one of them.

Remix Rush: Don’t Save Us From the Flames

Todays remix comes from an artist who I have nothing but true respect for, M83. The remix comes from the CD single “Don’t Save Us From the Flames”, and has been reworked by Superpitcher. The original track was realesed on M83’s breakthrough album “Before the Dawn Heals Us”. Superpitcher gives the song a much more upbeat sound which is not quite dancable, but more of just a head-bob. A good one to add to the remix collection.

Remix Rush: Lose Control

As I see it Missy Elliott is one of the greatest female entertainers hip-hop has ever seen. Not only are her vocal and rapping skills unreal, but Missy has been writing music and producing for other artists for years. So lets face it, the girl kicks ass. Her recent hit “Lose Control” was among my favorite singles released by Missy, and this track done by remix master Jacques Lu Cont takes it one step further. Chalk another one up for Jacques, this remix is dope.

Remix Rush: Seat Yourself

It seems like everywhere you look these days you can’t help but running across something of Diplo’s. I know the last “Remix Rush” was also done by Diplo, but I couldn’t pass up posting this track. The song is “Seat Yourself” from the “Awfully Deep DE/EP” by UK labelmates of Diplo, Roots Manuva. The combo of Diplo’s heavy-hitting beats and the smooth flow of Roots Manuva makes for a very tasty treat.

Remix Rush: Helicopter

While at the Pool Tradeshow we hung out a bit with the folks over at Dim Mak, they were all really nice people. Anyway, they hooked me up with Bloc Party’s “Helicopter” EP which has a couple of great remixes I hadn’t heard yet. One called the “Weird Science” remix done by Steve Aoki AKA Kid Millionaire featuring Peaches which kicks ass, but the one that I am really diggin’ is a remix done by the producer who simply dominated 2005 with his remixes, Diplo. Check it out.

Remix Rush: Run Into Flowers

To me there is little more satisfying than discovering a good remix. There is just something about hearing how another artist can reinterpret one of your favorite songs. So I have decided to share my love for the remix, and will be posting my favorites every-so-often. Today’s post includes a track from M83’s “Run Into Flowers EP”. The mix has been done by label-mates Abstrackt Keal Agram. They have put an experimental/abstract hip-hop twist on the song that I never would have thought of doing, but it really works, and in turn they have created one of my favorite remixes. Check it out.

Jimmy Eat World & Styrofoam, Who Would Have Thought?

When first hearing about the collaboration between Jimmy Eat World and indietronica king Styrofoam my jaw dropped. These two names where the last I would have expected to ever see together. On the reletively new EP of Jimmy Eat World’s, “Stay On My Side Tonight”, Styrofoam remixes their single “Drugs Or Me”. Remixes are always welcome in my library, and this one has quickly made it to one of my most listened tracks.

Hooray For Earth – Surrounded By Your Friends (Twin Shadow Remix)

Thursday, October 21st, 2010

Twin Shadow has been making some waves throughout the internets lately. I recently purchased his new album Forget, and I must say I quite like it. I am also really liking this remix he has done for Hooray For Earth, who I had never heard of before this song, but will surely be checking them out after hearing it.

Muscles – Girl Crazy Go (Muscles Inception Remix)

Monday, October 18th, 2010

The last I heard of Muscles he had quit the music business because of problems with his label Modular. This disappointed me because I love his music. However, I was happy to see that if the rumors were true at the time he has apparently changed his mind. A new EP by Muscles titled Younger & Immature is due out October 29.

Here’s a remix of the first single from the EP ‘Girl Crazy Go’. Check out the music video for the original version here. From the sounds of it Muscles hasn’t lost his musical touch, or his ego.

Sleigh Bells – Run the Heart (Bassnectar Remix)

Thursday, October 14th, 2010

Music by Bassnectar isn’t something I would normally post here. For the most part I feel his stuff is for dirty rave hippies, and if you read this blog at all you probably know how I feel about the wobbly bass-heavy Dubstep. That being said this remix done of Sleigh Bells‘ song ‘Run the Heart’ is still bass-heavy, but not completely overboard. It also manages to keep a lot of what makes the original track so good.

Martin Solveig ft. Dragonette – Hello

Tuesday, October 5th, 2010

Chances are if you spend any amount of time on the internet you have heard ‘Hello’ by Martin Solveig featuring the lovely Dragonette (considering it went number one on Hype Machine). But I couldn’t resist posting this super-fun dance-pop masterpiece. It’s basically impossible not to want to dance to this song. I don’t know a lot about Martin Solveig, but from what I have heard and seen so far I am liking his stuff. Purchase the EP with several remixes on Beatport now.

Millionyoung – Local Joke (Neon Indian Cover)

Friday, October 1st, 2010

Millionyoung, aka Mike Diaz, is shaping up to be one of my favorite artist of 2010. I really love this cover he has done of Neon Indian’s ‘Local Joke’. He adds his own personality to the song, so much that it sounds as though he could have written it. I am looking forward to a full-length album from him.
