Yak Ballz – The Compass (Cassettes Won’t Listen remix)

I am not a real big fan of most hip-hop as of late, and by as of late I mean in the past five years. But this remix Cassettes Won’t Listen did of ‘The Compass’ by Yak Ballz (yes, Yak Ballz) is mighty fine. The cover art done by laforge is pretty damn cool too. I like the old school hip-hop sound with Cassettes Won’t Listen’s subtle electronic touches.

Delphic – Doubt (Build Remix)

Delphic

Build has done a nice remix of ‘Doubt’ by Australia’s trio Delphic. As with a lot of these producers/DJ/groups/bands that are popping up all over, there is very little to find out about them. But what I do know is this remix is a synthy ball of bouncy goodness that is sure to brighten your day.

Les Savy Fav – The Slip (Kids at the Bar Remix)

Kids at the Bar Logo

Kids at the Bar have just announced the dates for their ‘So We Can Party Tour’ and along with that they sent over this BOMB of a remix. It’s a remix of Les Savy Fav’s song ‘The Slip’, and is without a doubt my favorite remix I have heard from the duo. Nice job boys, keep up the good work. Hopefully I will get to see them on one of these stops on the tour.

Faded Paper Figures – The Cold Wars

Faded Paper Figures

I first blogged about Faded Paper Figures at the beginning of last year when I heard their debut album Dynamo. At the time I compared their sound to that of The Postal Service. They have just released their second album New Medium, and while they still have a similar synth-pop sound it would seem they have come into their own and developed a sound of their own on this album. I have only given the album a once over, but from what I heard I am really liking it.

Wilco – Poor Places (Walls Remix)

Walls

I just got this remix in the inbox of Wilco’s ‘Poor Places’ done by UK duo Walls. This is a cool ambient take on this track with juggling beats and whispy layers. It almost reminds me a bit of music done by The Field (who they have also remixed) but with a little more distortion. Walls have a self-titled album out now on Kompakt.

ceo – Come With Me

ceo

The mysterious new act ceo on record label Modular, which was revealed to be a project of The Tough Alliance’s Eric Berglund, has given us a track from ceo’s album White Magic to be released on June 29 in the US. To be honest if I heard this track ‘Come With Me’ I would probably think it was from The Tough Alliance and not a different project. The sound isn’t really much different. Which isn’t a bad thing, I love The Tough Alliance. I am excited to hear the entire album after this sample track.

John Roman – Reclusion

John Roman

Producer John Roman seems to be creating a lot of buzz lately, and it seems he now has an album coming out in June called Reclusion. I am looking forward to hearing what he has in store for us. If it’s anything at all like the remixes he has been putting out it will blow dance floors away. Here’s a sample of some of John Roman’s stuff if you haven’t heard him.

Scanners – We Never Close Our Eyes (Gooseflesh Remix)

Scanners remixes

Yesterday Scanners released We Never Close Our Eyes Remixes which features seven different remixes of the track. Artists chosen for the collaboration include favorites Designers Drugs and LAZRtag, but I was really excited to see that Gooseflesh had made the roster. Ever since I discovered this duo from Turkey I have been super impressed with what they are doing, and this remix of ‘We Never Close Our Eyes’ lives up to their track record. The songs on this album remind me of the first remixes done of Bloc Party back in the day. The original electro-rock stuff that got indie kids dancing again. Good stuff.

Mr Flash – Flesh

Last month Mr Flash released his second EP Blood Sweat & Tears on Ed Banger Records. Just recently he also released the very NSFW video for the single ‘Flesh’ from the EP directed by Cédric BLAISBOIS. If you aren’t afraid of a little girl-on-girl actual head over and watch the video on Vimeo.

Skybox – In A Dream

skybox

Chicago band Skybox isn’t really pushing the limits in any direction one way or another. From the sound of the few tracks I have heard they are doing just good ol’ Indie Pop. Which isn’t a bad thing, they are doing it well. Although, I did find it a bit odd that The Hood Internet took a stab at remixing their song ‘In A Dream’. And even more strange they didn’t really change it up too much. But I enjoyed both tracks and their laid-back summer feel.

Hooray For Earth – Surrounded By Your Friends (Twin Shadow Remix)

Thursday, October 21st, 2010

Twin_Shadow

Twin Shadow has been making some waves throughout the internets lately. I recently purchased his new album Forget, and I must say I quite like it. I am also really liking this remix he has done for Hooray For Earth, who I had never heard of before this song, but will surely be checking them out after hearing it.

Muscles – Girl Crazy Go (Muscles Inception Remix)

Monday, October 18th, 2010

musclesyim

The last I heard of Muscles he had quit the music business because of problems with his label Modular. This disappointed me because I love his music. However, I was happy to see that if the rumors were true at the time he has apparently changed his mind. A new EP by Muscles titled Younger & Immature is due out October 29.

Here’s a remix of the first single from the EP ‘Girl Crazy Go’. Check out the music video for the original version here. From the sounds of it Muscles hasn’t lost his musical touch, or his ego.

Sleigh Bells – Run the Heart (Bassnectar Remix)

Thursday, October 14th, 2010

Sleigh+Bells+sleighbells1

Music by Bassnectar isn’t something I would normally post here. For the most part I feel his stuff is for dirty rave hippies, and if you read this blog at all you probably know how I feel about the wobbly bass-heavy Dubstep. That being said this remix done of Sleigh Bells‘ song ‘Run the Heart’ is still bass-heavy, but not completely overboard. It also manages to keep a lot of what makes the original track so good.

Martin Solveig ft. Dragonette – Hello

Tuesday, October 5th, 2010

dragonette-martin

Chances are if you spend any amount of time on the internet you have heard ‘Hello’ by Martin Solveig featuring the lovely Dragonette (considering it went number one on Hype Machine). But I couldn’t resist posting this super-fun dance-pop masterpiece. It’s basically impossible not to want to dance to this song. I don’t know a lot about Martin Solveig, but from what I have heard and seen so far I am liking his stuff. Purchase the EP with several remixes on Beatport now.

Millionyoung – Local Joke (Neon Indian Cover)

Friday, October 1st, 2010

million-young

Millionyoung, aka Mike Diaz, is shaping up to be one of my favorite artist of 2010. I really love this cover he has done of Neon Indian’s ‘Local Joke’. He adds his own personality to the song, so much that it sounds as though he could have written it. I am looking forward to a full-length album from him.
