Passion Pit – Chunk of Change

My favorite kinds of music are those of which are nearly impossible to niche into a genre. The music by Passion Pit is just that. The infectious wailing vocals of frontman and singer-songwriter Michael Angelakos backed by the blippy, bouncy electronic beats are hard to categorize in you music library. That’s exactly what makes music like this so great. The new album out by Passion Pit, Chunk of Change, is close to everything I look for in a favorite album. The lack of more tracks is pretty much the only thing missing. The album was originally written as an EP as a Valentines gift for Angelakos’ girfriend, later gaining much attention from friends, eventually all of Boston (the band’s hometown) and is now blowing up all over the internet. The complete album was released September 16th and is available now.

My favorite track on the album would have to be “I’ve Got Your Number”. For those of us who expected a new release out by The Postal Service this year will get temporary relief from this track.

Kavinsky – Nightcall (Adam Kesher Remix)

Monday, July 19th, 2010

Adam Kesher

Adam Kesher has just made available for download a four track collection of his own remixes. My favorite of the collection is this remix done for Kavinsky’s ‘Nightcall’. It’s a short (just under three minutes), happy tune with vocoded male vocals and female vocals that contrast nicely. Head over to the Disque Primeur Facebook page to download all four remixes free. Adam Kesher also has a new album due out in August called Challenging Nature, so keep your eye out for that.

Good Stuff From Glasser

Glasser

Last night I saw Delorean in concert. As I expected they were amazing, but I was also impressed by one of the opening acts Glasser. Glasser was one of those artists in my music library who I had listened to, filed away and forgotten to check into further. That is until I saw her performance last night. I recommend giving these tracks a listen and if you get the opportunity check her out live.

M.I.A. – Steppin’ Up (Nacey Remix)

Thursday, July 15th, 2010

Nacey

Nacey is a duo out of Washington D.C. that not only are a part of the city’s biggest club night, but have also been making waves as producers over the past couple years. This remix they have done of ‘Steppin’ Up’ from M.I.A.’s latest album isn’t exactly a dance floor banger, but good nevertheless. It’s got a cool melodic piano track and hard-hitting head-bobbing bassline. The duo recently released a seven track EP titled Time Run Out and is available now here.
