Limited Edition Supra Stubb’s Skytop: SXSW Edition

Supra and Stubb's

I am not what you would call a “sneaker head” by any means, but I think this collabaration between Supra and Stubb’s Bar-B-Q is pretty unique. The shoe is called the Stubb’s Skytop and is being released at SXSW in Austin, TX this Friday. Apparently Stubb’s Bar-B-Q is known for its amazing barbeque sauce as well as being a great venue to see live music. The special edition package will include a pair of Stubb’s Skytops, a 2009 SXSW apron, a bottle of Stubb’s sauce, all inside a handmade wooden numbered box that is branded with the 2009 SXSW seal. There are only 50 of these packages being sold, so if you are at SXSW and want to go stand in a long ass line in the Austin heat to pay a shit load of money for some really cool kicks you had better be at Stubb’s! Eliss for the iPhone/iPod Touch

elise

Eliss is a game for the iPhone and iPod Touch that caught my attention from the second I heard the soundtrack and saw the semi-8-bit style graphics. The game was developed by Steph Thirion who seems to have a background in this “retro” style gaming and design. It took me a bit to get a hang of the game, but after I did I was hooked. Even if the game wasn’t fun I would still play it just to hear the soundtrack. Eliss has a reasonable price tag of $3.99 and is available at the iTunes App Store.

Chris Cornel On NPR

The other day I was listening to an interview on NPR with lead singer of Soundgarden, Chris Cornell. The interview was about his recent project with the well known producer Timbaland. Timbaland has worked with a wide variety of artists, but I think it’s obvious most people wouldn’t have expected Chris Cornell to team up with him. In the interview Cornell talks about how they got together and his reasoning for changing up his sound. I think he comes of as a really intelligent guy. I don’t particularly care for the music much, but I have a lot of respect for artists that are willing to try something different.

Changethethought

Changethethought

I don’t often post about other blogs, but I recently came across Changethethought which quickly became added to my daily reads. I am surprised I hadn’t seen it before seeing as it has been around now for over seven years now. The blog was founded by designer/writter Christopher Cox from the well known design portal Design Is Kinky and has now grown to include the writings of ten people. The blog features a lot of great work from some very talented designers and other inspirational work.

MSTRKRFT Announces North American Tour

mstrkrft

When you have reached the caliber of popularity that MSTRKRFT has it’s hard to avoid the backlash of haters. But somehow they are able to get away with remixing Britney Spears and still maintain their street cred. With the much anticipated release of their album Fist Of God coming up in March MSTRKRFT is hitting-up a bunch of cities across North America to build the hype (as if there won’t be enough already). The tour includes performances at SXSW, Ultra Music Festival and ending up at Coachella. They are even doing a special live performace of ‘Bounce’ on Jimmy Kimmel. Damn, pretty mainstream. Let’s hope they keep that street cred.

XLR8R’s Vis-Ed

The other day I walked into some random convenient store in Los Angeles and found the special edition magazine that XLR8R recently published (I love that convenient stores carry ‘zines like this in LA). The magazine is dedicated solely to the section of XLR8R called Vis-Ed, and is cover-to-cover full of featured artists. XLR8R is one of my favorite magazines, if not my favorite magazine out there and I think what they are doing with Vis-Ed is really cool. They have also launched a website dedicated to Vis-Ed which I am hoping is updated frequently.

The Presets – If I Know You Video

The Presets have just released a video for the track “If I know You” off their album Apocalypto. They have chosen French director Eva Husson who also did the video for M83’s “Kim and Jessie”. This track isn’t one of my favorites from the album, but I really like the video and how it goes along with the song. It could have easily crossed over into being pretty corny, but the way it was filmed and produced made for a really cool video.

Amplive Remixes In Rainbows

There seems to have been a bit of controversy surrounding the remix album Zion I producer Amplive did of Radiohead’s In Rainbows. The project recieved a cease & desist order before it was even released. However, the artists involved were able to come to an agreement and have made the entire 8 track album available for free. Nice resolution! The remix album which, was titled Rainydayz Remixes, has injected a nice hip-hop twist on the original featuring guest appearances by Del The Funky Homosapien and Too $hort. I also really enjoy Amplive’s semi-glitchy production style that he also uses on Zion I albums.

Friday, March 12th, 2010

Time to start the weekend off right with this brand new original track by Kids At The Bar. This track has a bit of a different sound than their usual electro-rock sound, but it will certainly get the dance floor just as rowdy. The track will be released on Robot Dance Records and will be available on both Beatport and iTunes.

Washed Out – New Theory

Washed Out

I have really been liking Washed Out lately. The nostalgic sound of his music makes me long for some summertime relaxing. This is one of my favorite tracks from his recently released EP Summer 2009.

Dirty Super Car – Get a Grip (The Loops of Fury Remix)

Tuesday, March 9th, 2010

Grand Hotel

I just got this tasty little treat in the inbox today from London based electro label Grand Hotel. It’s a track called ‘Get a Grip’ by an artist who I found it difficult to get any solid info on called Dirty Super Car. The track is remixed by The Loops of Fury out of Brisbane and has a nice classic, gritty electro-house feel to it.

l_99804b183db14bb3bb3919061f48e89f

So it has been a while since I have posted here at TheDopeFiend and I honestly can’t think of a better way to come back than to bring you this remix Hot Pink Delorean has done of Designer Drugs‘ ‘ZOMBIES!’. The original track is amazing to begin with. I didn’t think it anyone could have made it harder than it already is, but Hot Pink Delorean managed to take the ZOMBIES! and put there own evil metal twist on it that makes it a complete headbanger of a track. It literally game me goosebumps the first time hearing it. I suggest you download it now!
