Rakes & Strays Spring 2010 Designs

Rakes-and-Strays

Rakes & Strays have just released their new line of t-shirt designs for their spring/summer line and all of them are looking super fresh. Rakes & Strays is the sister company of EIO Clothing, which I posted about the other day. They describe the Rakes & Strays line as EIO Clothing’s “vagabond sibling, the child that left home early and ran away to join the circus.” The line is available now exclusively  in their online store.

EIO Clothing Spring Collection

eio

Some years back I posted about the clothing label EIO (Excess is ok). It’s unfortunate they had slipped my mind until the release of their new Spring collection because I really like their stuff a lot. The new collection includes 12 new designs as well as a new t-shirt style ‘The Asylum T-shirt’, which is produced of their own ultra-soft fabric. All tees are hand printed and are produced in limited quantities.

Grizzly Nights Tees

Lately I have had a thing for simple, duotoned or black and white tees. Grizzly Nights have a line that features fairly basic, but yet bold designs. The tees are designed, hand screen printed and labeled by Grizzly Nights themselves. I really enjoy the minimal approach, using black and white, basic shapes and hand drawn illustrations.

Alex & Chloe Tees

Alex & Chloe is well known for their unique and stylish jewelery, but they have also introduced a t-shirt line that I quite like. Their minimal designs are what attracted me to the line. Using large over sized prints, basic shapes, colors and gradients for most of their tees. The line is a bit pricey for what I would normally pay for a t-shirt, but some of their tees are on sale right now which brings them down to an almost reasonable price.

55 DSL Logo Remix Contest

During my recent visit to NYC I didn’t get a bunch of time to check out shops and boutiques. However, I did get a chance to stop by 55DSL’s shop, and I was more impressed than I thought I would be. I really like 55DSL’s clothing and the overall feel of the brand. With their recently announced Logo Remix Contest 55DSL has partnered up with Cut&Paste to give you the opportunity to put thier own spin on their brand. Submit your own “remix” of the 55DSL Sheild logo in a way that represents the companie’s culture and spirit and you could have the chance to win 1,055€. Not only that but your remixed logo will be featured on a t-shirt in the company’s 2010 line. Creative people get to crackin’, the contest ends December 5th.

Betaunit ‘08 Fall/Winter Line

When I recently stumbled upon the new Fall/Winter line by Betaunit I was not only really impressed with their designs, I was also really shocked when I discovered that they were based out of Los Angeles. When you first look at the clothing you would think the line was based somewhere in Europe. I really like the fact that they are experimenting with designs other than just t-shirts. For example the design shown called the “Welsh”. Another piece I really found interesting was the “Born“. This is a hoodie that has a zip-off removable hood, and detaches in a way that I have never seen before. Their t-shirt line is also really cool with a neo-psychadelic look. The designs remind me of the MGMT video for “Electric Eel“.

In Your Closet NYC

I hate Ebay. Truly can’t stand it. But In Your Closet NYC is one of the cooler websites I have seen utilizing Ebay. If you are living in New York City and have some extra stuff laying around in your closet that you want to get rid of, In Your Closet NYC will raid your closet and sell it on Ebay. It’s kind of like consignment that makes house calls. It looks like much of what they specialize in is more vintage looking clothing, but they will also sell your books, toys and more. So whether you are are looking to buy some cool shit, or live in NYC and want to sell some cool shit In Your Closet NYC has your back.

GRN Apple Tree – Women’s Line

I have been a big fan of GRN Apple tree for a long time now. I am happy to see that they are taking the dive into a women’s cut-and-sew line, and from the looks of it they have done a great job for their first attempt. In most cases when designing women’s clothing I think there is more room to be creative with the cuts and overall design, and they have taken advantage of it. The piece shown above is a good example of this. The line should be available in retail stores by the holidays, keep your eye out.

PleaseDressMe

Despite the overly bubbly/cutesy logo, the concept behind PleaseDressMe is a great one. PleaseDressMe is a search engine designed specifically for t-shirts. The site allows you to search different tees according to color, price, keywords, tags and will also select random tees if you’d like. They have also developed a Firefox plug-in so you can easily access their search. It’s a really good concept, I hope the quality of their results improves and grows. At the moment you get a lot of “College Humor” type results, but I think this will quickly change.

Blood is the New Black

When it comes to graphic tees I am all about simplicity. I really like the combination of simple shapes and good colors. Blood is the New Black has a bunch of designs by a bunch of different designers that fall into this category. I am also always down to support a small company that prices their product at a reasonable cost. Many of the shirts over at Blood is the New Black are under $25, and they are having a sale right now! I am excited to see future work from featured artists at this label.

CTRL Fall ‘08

The lookbook for CTRL’s Fall ‘08 line is up and looking pretty interesting. It looks to me like this Swedish label has gotten a lot of inspiration for the current design going on in Brazil. Is it me or could you not totally see Lovefoxxx from CSS wearing a pear of these? A lot of the clothing is a bit “out there” for my own personal style, but I think if worn properly some of these pieces are really cool. Especially the girl’s stuff.

Cultist

As Promised, more content for the ladies. It appears as though the female focused streetwear style blog/online boutique Cultist has “revamped, restocked and relaunched” their online store. The store has some really cute stuff from labels like Insight, Hellz Bellz and WESC. I especially am liking their selection of dresses.

Women’s Modern Amusement

I know the female readers of this blog must occasionally feel somewhat neglected. So I have decided to add a bit more female oriented content to this blog and dedicate them to the ladies, especially my girl Yuri who was recently kind enough to let me crash at her place in San Francisco for 5 weeks, and who is also an avid reader of TheDopeFiend.

Modern Amusement has been a favorite clothing label of mine for some time now. They have recently, and finally announced they will be releasing a women’s line due out this Fall. From what I have seen so far the line it looks quite promising.

GRN Apple Tree

GRN Apple Tree has long been one of my favorite clothing companies. Throughout the years they have managed to stay unique with their designs, avoiding most of the overdone/overused trends that most clothing companies fall into. There is a series of GRN Apple Tree’s newer designs that I particularly like. The series features large prints and masked monochrome or black & white photos, masked by angular shapes. The designs are large and bold, but stay fairly minimal without being to over-the-top. The Pommier V-neck, Snap Shot and Lamp V-neck are a few of my favorites.

Hooray For Earth – Surrounded By Your Friends (Twin Shadow Remix)

Thursday, October 21st, 2010

Twin_Shadow

Twin Shadow has been making some waves throughout the internets lately. I recently purchased his new album Forget, and I must say I quite like it. I am also really liking this remix he has done for Hooray For Earth, who I had never heard of before this song, but will surely be checking them out after hearing it.

Muscles – Girl Crazy Go (Muscles Inception Remix)

Monday, October 18th, 2010

musclesyim

The last I heard of Muscles he had quit the music business because of problems with his label Modular. This disappointed me because I love his music. However, I was happy to see that if the rumors were true at the time he has apparently changed his mind. A new EP by Muscles titled Younger & Immature is due out October 29.

Here’s a remix of the first single from the EP ‘Girl Crazy Go’. Check out the music video for the original version here. From the sounds of it Muscles hasn’t lost his musical touch, or his ego.

Sleigh Bells – Run the Heart (Bassnectar Remix)

Thursday, October 14th, 2010

Sleigh+Bells+sleighbells1

Music by Bassnectar isn’t something I would normally post here. For the most part I feel his stuff is for dirty rave hippies, and if you read this blog at all you probably know how I feel about the wobbly bass-heavy Dubstep. That being said this remix done of Sleigh Bells‘ song ‘Run the Heart’ is still bass-heavy, but not completely overboard. It also manages to keep a lot of what makes the original track so good.

Martin Solveig ft. Dragonette – Hello

Tuesday, October 5th, 2010

dragonette-martin

Chances are if you spend any amount of time on the internet you have heard ‘Hello’ by Martin Solveig featuring the lovely Dragonette (considering it went number one on Hype Machine). But I couldn’t resist posting this super-fun dance-pop masterpiece. It’s basically impossible not to want to dance to this song. I don’t know a lot about Martin Solveig, but from what I have heard and seen so far I am liking his stuff. Purchase the EP with several remixes on Beatport now.

Millionyoung – Local Joke (Neon Indian Cover)

Friday, October 1st, 2010

million-young

Millionyoung, aka Mike Diaz, is shaping up to be one of my favorite artist of 2010. I really love this cover he has done of Neon Indian’s ‘Local Joke’. He adds his own personality to the song, so much that it sounds as though he could have written it. I am looking forward to a full-length album from him.
