XLR8R Adds Miami to Their Guide
XLR8R's City Guide now has Miami.
For the electronic music lovers in the New York area, you may want to consider checking out the first ever Minitek Festival going down on September 12, 13 and 14 in NYC. The festival is focusing on innovation in both music and art. Featuring musicians and artists that are using unique techniques to change the way we experience performances and exhibitions. The tickets are only $80 for the entire weekend, and with the look of the lineup of performers that seems very reasonable. Head over the their website for more info, full lineup and tickets.
Honestly, what could be better than a road trip with your friends to go see some of the most amazing bands and artists in the world at a beautiful outdoor music festival? I really couldn’t think of many better ways to spend a weekend. If you agree with me you may want to consider getting some freinds together and heading to the Sasquatch Music Festival at the Gorge in George, Washington. The line-up for the 2 day festival is amazing, including Bjork, the Beastie Boys, M.I.A., Interpol, Grizzly Bear, Aquaduct, Electralane and a lot more. With a line-up like that and cheap tickets, starting at only $55, this should be a no-brainer for anyone living remotely close to Washington.
Thanks for the heads-up on this one Steph.
For those of you living on the East Coast unable to make it out to California for Coachella, you may feel a little left out. Well, the answer for you is Miami’s M3 Music Festival. M3, as I see it, is in many ways better than Coachella. I used to see the M3 festival as more of an event for your typical “club-goer”, but over the years it has become more eclectic. Featuring not only DJs and electronic acts, but also hip-hop and rock such as the Strange Fruit Project and She Wants Revenge. Advantages over Coachella would be that the event lasts for not two days, but four. It takes place on a sunny beach, not a sun scorched polo field. And the real advantage being that it costs half as much, tickets are onlt $99.
With all the hype about Coachella it my have been easy to overlook a music festival that is becoming one of the biggest parties in the nation – M3, or Miami Music Multimedia. The event is has an amazing roster of artisits, and although it may not be as eclectic as Coachella’s line-up, for the $179 ticket (if purchased before March 20th) you get six days packed full of madness rather than just two. I suppose the only downfall for us westerners is the plane ticket out there, but I am sure it would be worth it.

Twin Shadow has been making some waves throughout the internets lately. I recently purchased his new album Forget, and I must say I quite like it. I am also really liking this remix he has done for Hooray For Earth, who I had never heard of before this song, but will surely be checking them out after hearing it.

The last I heard of Muscles he had quit the music business because of problems with his label Modular. This disappointed me because I love his music. However, I was happy to see that if the rumors were true at the time he has apparently changed his mind. A new EP by Muscles titled Younger & Immature is due out October 29.
Here’s a remix of the first single from the EP ‘Girl Crazy Go’. Check out the music video for the original version here. From the sounds of it Muscles hasn’t lost his musical touch, or his ego.

Music by Bassnectar isn’t something I would normally post here. For the most part I feel his stuff is for dirty rave hippies, and if you read this blog at all you probably know how I feel about the wobbly bass-heavy Dubstep. That being said this remix done of Sleigh Bells‘ song ‘Run the Heart’ is still bass-heavy, but not completely overboard. It also manages to keep a lot of what makes the original track so good.

Chances are if you spend any amount of time on the internet you have heard ‘Hello’ by Martin Solveig featuring the lovely Dragonette (considering it went number one on Hype Machine). But I couldn’t resist posting this super-fun dance-pop masterpiece. It’s basically impossible not to want to dance to this song. I don’t know a lot about Martin Solveig, but from what I have heard and seen so far I am liking his stuff. Purchase the EP with several remixes on Beatport now.

Millionyoung, aka Mike Diaz, is shaping up to be one of my favorite artist of 2010. I really love this cover he has done of Neon Indian’s ‘Local Joke’. He adds his own personality to the song, so much that it sounds as though he could have written it. I am looking forward to a full-length album from him.
