XLR8R Adds Miami to Their Guide
XLR8R's City Guide now has Miami.
I am not by any means what you would call a gamer, however there are the occasional video games that seem to get me hooked. EA recently released Sim City for the iPhone and I have been having a hard keeping my battery charged ever since I downloaded it. At first I was a bit hesitant to spend $9.99 on the application. A lot of the reviews I read said it was buggy and they were having problems with it crashing. But I have found it to be nothing less that absolutely additive.
Fingerboarding is one of those things that I never understood how people get so good at. I used to watch videos of kids doing some insane things with fingerboards. It seems kind of silly when you think about it, but takes a lot of coordination. The same goes for the new iPhone/iPod Touch game out by Illusion Labs called Touchgrind. The game is basically a virtual fingerboard that you control with different finger combinations. It’s obvious a lot of time has gone into this game. The physics are very lifelike and there are different skate parks and games you can play within the game. For only five bucks you can spend hours trying to master this virtual fingerboard.
Incase has been making quality products for years. Not only are they high quality, but they look good and are always designed well. In general I am not super keen on iPhone cases. Most of them are bulky, rubbery and really detract for the iPhone’s sleek design. However, If there was one iPhone case I would use it would most likely be Incase’s Slider Case. The case is protective with its internal rubber gaurdrails, but doesn’t detract too much from the iPhone’s sleekness with its 1mm thin plastic case. The case shown above is a special new design done by the artist Parra. It will be available October 24th at the Incase webstore, select Apple Stores and Arktip.
In the past I have been rather skeptical of most event and concert community websites. They never seem to keep good track of the smaller, less mainstream shows and venues. However, Eventful has quickly changed my opinion. The website’s integration with many other tools is the best part. Eventful not only allows you to track your favorite local venues and the shows that are playing there, but it does a great job at customizing your profile to search out artists that you like. Eventful will even search you Last.fm profile and iTunes library for the music you listen to and then search for those artists playing in your area. You can also demand artists that you would like to see in your city, join community groups and discussions and add your favorite venues and artists to your watch list.
And for those of you with an iPhone of iPod Touch be sure to check out Eventful’s iPhone application.
There’s nothing worse than forgetting the name of the artist who sings a song you heard. Or when you hear a song in a store an really want to know who the artist is that sings it. Midomi for the iPhone takes care of these problems along with providing many other cool features. This iPhone application allows you to sing, hum or play a song into your iPhone’s mic, then searches Midomi’s music database to match your singing, humming or the song with the closest results. You can also simply say or type the name of a song or artist to search the Midomi database. After you do a search and results are found you can then purchase the artist’s tracks from iTunes, view YouTube videos, view photos and see more tracks available from the artist. The application’s interface is very simple and easy to use. I only hope that the database becomes a bit more expansive, as many of the more obscure songs I have searched have no results. Overall a great application with many uses.

Twin Shadow has been making some waves throughout the internets lately. I recently purchased his new album Forget, and I must say I quite like it. I am also really liking this remix he has done for Hooray For Earth, who I had never heard of before this song, but will surely be checking them out after hearing it.

The last I heard of Muscles he had quit the music business because of problems with his label Modular. This disappointed me because I love his music. However, I was happy to see that if the rumors were true at the time he has apparently changed his mind. A new EP by Muscles titled Younger & Immature is due out October 29.
Here’s a remix of the first single from the EP ‘Girl Crazy Go’. Check out the music video for the original version here. From the sounds of it Muscles hasn’t lost his musical touch, or his ego.

Music by Bassnectar isn’t something I would normally post here. For the most part I feel his stuff is for dirty rave hippies, and if you read this blog at all you probably know how I feel about the wobbly bass-heavy Dubstep. That being said this remix done of Sleigh Bells‘ song ‘Run the Heart’ is still bass-heavy, but not completely overboard. It also manages to keep a lot of what makes the original track so good.

Chances are if you spend any amount of time on the internet you have heard ‘Hello’ by Martin Solveig featuring the lovely Dragonette (considering it went number one on Hype Machine). But I couldn’t resist posting this super-fun dance-pop masterpiece. It’s basically impossible not to want to dance to this song. I don’t know a lot about Martin Solveig, but from what I have heard and seen so far I am liking his stuff. Purchase the EP with several remixes on Beatport now.

Millionyoung, aka Mike Diaz, is shaping up to be one of my favorite artist of 2010. I really love this cover he has done of Neon Indian’s ‘Local Joke’. He adds his own personality to the song, so much that it sounds as though he could have written it. I am looking forward to a full-length album from him.
