Muscles – Girl Crazy Go (Muscles Inception Remix)

musclesyim

The last I heard of Muscles he had quit the music business because of problems with his label Modular. This disappointed me because I love his music. However, I was happy to see that if the rumors were true at the time he has apparently changed his mind. A new EP by Muscles titled Younger & Immature is due out October 29.

Here’s a remix of the first single from the EP ‘Girl Crazy Go’. Check out the music video for the original version here. From the sounds of it Muscles hasn’t lost his musical touch, or his ego.

The Design Work of Leif

innerspeaker cover

I had been wondering who was the designer behind the album artwork for Tame Impala’s new album InnerSpeaker. The other day I stumbled across the portfolio of Leif, a Melbourne based artist who appears to be the man with the talent behind this cover as well as the cover for their new single Solitude is Bliss (which I just so happened to have posted a remix of). Leif has a lot of other nice looking work in his portfolio, check it out.

ceo – Come With Me

ceo

The mysterious new act ceo on record label Modular, which was revealed to be a project of The Tough Alliance’s Eric Berglund, has given us a track from ceo’s album White Magic to be released on June 29 in the US. To be honest if I heard this track ‘Come With Me’ I would probably think it was from The Tough Alliance and not a different project. The sound isn’t really much different. Which isn’t a bad thing, I love The Tough Alliance. I am excited to hear the entire album after this sample track.

Modular People Tees

modular_tees

While Modular may be known for their consistently awesome releases of indie-pop and dance music, they also have a pretty amazing line of tees as well. Yes, their promo photos may be crossing the line on the creepy s&m side, but great tees never the less.

Wolfmother – Far Away

Remix Rush :: Van She/M83

Although this track was released quite some time ago I feel like I have to post it. M83 has taken the track ‘Kelly’, originally by Van She, and transformed it into a melodic shoe-gazey masterpiece. Although you can still tell the remix is M83, it doesn’t have that dark feel that a lot of his music has. In fact it’s completely uplifting. This is not the first time M83 has remixed an artist from the record label Modular. He also reworked the track ‘Shadows’ by label mates Midnight Juggernauts. I would like to see him take on more dance tracks, he does a great job on these remixes.

Tame Impala Debut EP

Pretty much anything that Modular puts out you can bet on it being solid. Tame Impala is a new 3 peice psychedlic rock band out of Australia that has a new self titled EP coming out on Modular. Head over to their website now and download the song “Skeleton Tiger” for free. You can also pre-order the EP for the ultra low cost of $3.99 for when it comes out on the 11th of October.

Remix Rush: Lauren From Glebe

Occasionally I come across a remix so good I hesitate spreading it around. So good I don’t want it to get burnt out or overplayed. When I first heard this remix of “Lauren From Glebe” by Damage I hesitated posting it. After listening to it on repeat for a week I couldn’t resist. I have been waiting for a good remix of a track off Muscles‘ new album since it was released. This edit keeps all the great elements of the original and adds just enough to make it a hyped-up banger. This is the second remix Damage has done of a Muscles track, the other being of “One Inch Badge Pin” which is also really good. Damage is yet another artist emerging from Down Under with a hand full of great party tracks like remixes of Ming and Ping, Frankmusic and Lifelike.

MUSCLES!!!

On yet another music related note – I bring you Muscles. I am a couple weeks late on this one, but I couldn’t resist mentioning the release of his debut full length album Guns Babes Lemonade. I am going to skip all the B.S. you are going to read everywhere else about how Muscles is bringing back the “sound of rave”. Instead I will jump right to how this music, regardless of the label you put on it, is just simply amazing! Muscles’ wailing, emotion-filled vocals are a perfect contrast to the synthy up-tempo dance beats throughout the entire album. I could go on about how this is probably my favorite dance album of the year, and how he could quite possibly be the best artist on the amazing Modular Records, but I will let the music do the talking. Check it out!

Modular People/Podcast

This is somewhat of a two part post. The first part is about the fact that Modular Records is basically taking over the world. With well known artists on their label such as The Avalanches, Yeah Yeah Yeah’s, Soulwax and MSTRKRFT to relatively new artists to the world like The Presets, Van She, New Young Pony Club and The Klaxons, Modular seems to be storming the world with its new sound. Quite honestly over half the tracks I played on a recent DJ set were by artists on Modular, and every one of them were welcomed with cheers and people dancing their asses off. I am much anticipating more releases by the label.

The second part of this post keeps with the podcast theme of the last post. Modular also has a great podcast by the name of Modcast. Modcast features singles released by Modular artists and some other great tracks too. It’s great for keeping up on the recent buzz at this awesome label that’s taking dance music to new places.

Hooray For Earth – Surrounded By Your Friends (Twin Shadow Remix)

Thursday, October 21st, 2010

Twin_Shadow

Twin Shadow has been making some waves throughout the internets lately. I recently purchased his new album Forget, and I must say I quite like it. I am also really liking this remix he has done for Hooray For Earth, who I had never heard of before this song, but will surely be checking them out after hearing it.

Sleigh Bells – Run the Heart (Bassnectar Remix)

Thursday, October 14th, 2010

Sleigh+Bells+sleighbells1

Music by Bassnectar isn’t something I would normally post here. For the most part I feel his stuff is for dirty rave hippies, and if you read this blog at all you probably know how I feel about the wobbly bass-heavy Dubstep. That being said this remix done of Sleigh Bells‘ song ‘Run the Heart’ is still bass-heavy, but not completely overboard. It also manages to keep a lot of what makes the original track so good.

Martin Solveig ft. Dragonette – Hello

Tuesday, October 5th, 2010

dragonette-martin

Chances are if you spend any amount of time on the internet you have heard ‘Hello’ by Martin Solveig featuring the lovely Dragonette (considering it went number one on Hype Machine). But I couldn’t resist posting this super-fun dance-pop masterpiece. It’s basically impossible not to want to dance to this song. I don’t know a lot about Martin Solveig, but from what I have heard and seen so far I am liking his stuff. Purchase the EP with several remixes on Beatport now.

Millionyoung – Local Joke (Neon Indian Cover)

Friday, October 1st, 2010

million-young

Millionyoung, aka Mike Diaz, is shaping up to be one of my favorite artist of 2010. I really love this cover he has done of Neon Indian’s ‘Local Joke’. He adds his own personality to the song, so much that it sounds as though he could have written it. I am looking forward to a full-length album from him.
